Specialist Leaders of Education

Our aim is to enhance teaching, learning and achievement in schools across our area by providing training, research, professional development and school to school support. We offer peer support in other schools through our Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs).

SLEs are outstanding middle and senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools. They understand what outstanding leadership practice in their area of expertise looks like and are skilled in helping other leaders to achieve it in their own context. They can provide support through development planning, quality assurance, improving performance and peer coaching.

We have SLEs who can offer support in the following areas: 

Secondary Subject Leadership: we have SLEs in Mathematics, English, Computer Science, Art and Design, Modern Languages and History.

Working With You

Brokering SLE support is a two way process.  We work with you to identify why support is needed and how it can be best deployed.

Models and types of deployments will vary. One deployment could be a one to two day diagnostic exercise, whilst another might require significant in-school support.

Before an SLE is deployed, we will agree a Support Plan which sets out the area of focus, agreed timescales of the deployment, costs and impact measures.

All SLEs deployed  will be monitored for the quality of the support they provide. They will be expected to be able to evidence that their work has had a positive impact using a range of indicators including examination results, learner progress, reduction in in-school variation and the improved quality of teaching and learning.

We will liaise closely with you to ensure all agreed outcomes at the start of the deployment have been achieved and your school has moved forward as a result.
